Though everyone loses hair each day, for many people, it grows back.
You can expect around 100 strands of hair to fall off on a regular
basis. A typical hair growth cycle lasts between two to six years with
hair falling out and re-growing every twelve weeks. There people who
will begin losing more hair than others while the hair doesn’t grow
back. This is becoming common for many men and women nowadays.
A large number of men and women aren’t even aware they are losing
some of their hair, until it is pointed out to them by those around
them. If you feel that you are losing your hair, you should know that
there are different types of hair loss. Both males and
females could get androgenetic alopecia which is also known as pattern
baldness. The major cause of this type is heredity, and it is
characterized by weaker strands of hair along with slow growth. Family
history of pattern baldness increases the risk, and age is also a factor
in the extent of hair loss.
A lasting kind of hair loss
brought on by inflammation is known as cicatricial alopecia or scarring
alopecia. Inflammation damages the hair follicles, causing scars, which
keep new hair from developing. No one is quite sure how inflammation
comes about but some skin problems like lupus erythematosus and lichen
planus are known to also result in scarring alopecia. Yet another type
of hair loss is alopecia areata and it is considered to be an autoimmune
disease. While it’s also not known what triggers the affliction, it’s
still classified as such. The people who usually suffer from this
ailment are basically healthy, but it might be caused by an autoimmune
disorder like a thyroid illness. Others hypothesize that it might either
be genetic disorder or a virus that activates the onset of alopecia
areata.
Telogen effluvium is yet another kind of hair loss that comes about
when there is a change in the normal hair cycle. Growth of hair may end
abruptly when there is a sudden shock to the system. People who get into
a deep depression brought on by deeply stressful situations might find
themselves with telogen effluvium. Severe physiological stress like
severe weight gain or loss, severe illness or metabolic problems can
result in rapid hair loss.
Yet another kind of hair loss referred to as traction alopecia is
starting to become more and more common. This kind of hair loss is being
brought about by over styling of the hair. The ceaseless pulling of the
hair causes the roots to become weakened and hair cannot grow again.
