DIY Keratin Treatment Tips

DIY Keratin Treatment Tips
Doing a home keratin treatment by yourself is a great way to save money, but it can be difficult to do it completely diy by yourself. While you can, it is much easier with a friend that can see the back of your head (I do it by myself, and it turns out fine, so don’t let the first tip stop you!) Here are my tips for a DIY keratin application:

Get a Friend to Help

Yes you can do it without one, but for a really even application of keratin, especially in the back, a friend is helpful. If you don’t have a friend have a hand held mirror and lots of clips to help control your hair and enable you to work on small sections at a time.

Practice Blowing Out Your Hair

This was huge for me because for some reason I can’t control a round brush. For the keratin to bond to your hair you have to blow dry your hair and then flat iron it and you want it to be as straight as possible. Getting a good blow out that takes the curl out of your hair will help the keratin bond and give you the best results. If you can’t use a round brush, try a flat brush or comb that gives you as much control as possible.

Use a Good Flat Iron

You don’t need something expensive but you do want to consider two things when choosing a flat iron to bond the keratin to your hair. First, you need a flat iron where you can control the temperature. The second thing is to use a larger flat iron, I prefer a 2 inch iron for the most control.

Take Your Time

The best thing about keratin is that there is no time limit where you need to finish or your hair will fall out or something unlike things like relaxers. Take your time to ensure the keratin is applied all over your hair, make sure it’s blown out, and ironed as flat as possible.

There you go, some simple tips to help your DIY keratin hair treatment go as smoothly as possible (pun intended!)

That “finger in a light socket” look is what you find yourself having if you so much as subjected your hair on a humid day, combed your hair, or dried your hair after a shower. You can do something to tame that wild mane of yours and you don’t even have to spend a lot of money. It is said that there are three layers comprising your hair shaft, with the external layer not being a solid, sleek surface. Rather, this layer contains small cells overlapping each other. Ideally, these overlapping cells should lay perfectly smooth. Frizzy hair happens when these cells lift, making your hair kink, curl, and get stiff. Frizzy hair is generally dry. Dry, frizzy hair may be tamed with intense conditioning, moisturizing shampoos and conditioners, and even overnight oil treatments. Do not wash your hair too frequently. Repeated washing dries out the hair and distur...
